Vibe Overgaard is a visual artist based in Copenhagen, working with sculpture, video, text, performance and printmaking.
The common question in her practice has to do with alienation and agency under capitalism. How does the growth economy affect cultural, bodily, and emotional aspects of human life, and how do we move beyond?
She works with the legacy of modern development in the light of her own political context and upbringing: her father and grandfather had a carpet factory, and her sculptural forms often draw on childhood memories of that industrial environment. She uses materials like clay and wood, exploring the dynamic between industrial machine logic and the organic sensibility of earthly materials.
The sculptures are melancholic portrayals of the heritage of industry in Western culture, and in her work with the sculptures, she explores a haunting presence in the idea of the industrial machine, the factory, and in the infrastructure of capitalism.
