In the exhibition Iron and Star, Vibe Overgaard presents new works consisting of intaglio prints mounted on metal structures.
The exhibition takes its point of departure in a technical book on steel construction and shipbuilding from Helsingør Shipyard, opening up a symbolic and almost occult reading of metalwork: as a practice in which knowledge, will, and matter merge.
The history of industry is connected to broader narratives of modernity, globalization, and the human relationship with technology. The scale zooms out to a cosmic level, where iron is formed within a star, ultimately causing the star’s destruction in an explosion that creates gold. Drawing on the imagery of alchemy, the exhibition explores the connection between science, myth, and the human capacity to both create and destroy.
Vibe Overgaard is a visual artist working with sculpture, video, text, performance, and printmaking. A recurring question in her practice concerns alienation and agency under capitalism. How does the growth economy shape human cultural, bodily, and emotional life—and how might we move beyond it? In recent works, she has begun to explore connections between technology and occultism.
